well, that came and went…
Mt. Hood that is. Sorry for the lack of blogging, but after europe and gila, it was all i could do just to get through the week in OR. don’t get me wrong – it was great. absolutely beautiful, got to race with the girls, got to see E.C. and the Bissell boys, and ended in 3rd GC with our very own storm trooper leah. but now, i am exhausted! so i’ll let the pictures do the talking:
Omer Kem, being the complete gentleman, let me use his TT helmet. (BJM didn’t want me to borrow his for some reason.) When Glen found out, he was livid. Apparently, a good TT is all in the helmet…
Shaz has a soft spot for teenage mutant ninga turtles.
I barely made it as it is. Without these two, I would have been completely lost…probably curled in the fetal position, drooling and mumbling to myself somewhere in the Oregon wilderness.

VAC’s Goldstein claims 2nd place in Tyrone Time Trial and increases overall lead to over 2 minutes!
Once again, the ValueAct Capital women showed their strength at the Tyrone Time Trial at the Tour of the Gila today. Leah Goldstein finished just 10 seconds behind Aaron’s Felicia Gomez on the 16.1 mile course today. Aaron’s Julie Beveridge claimed 3rd place.
The time trial course is anything but flat, as it begins with a long 4.4 mile grind uphill, followed by a fast descent and several rollers before the turnaround. In past years, the winds have played a factor in the stage, and they were strong today, with a cross/headwind on the descent back to the finish. Gomez set the fastest time of the day at 40:27. And everyone held their breath, waiting to see if Goldstein could pass that time. When Leah came through 10 seconds slower, she was a bit disappointed. “I was really focused on beating my closest competition, especially Leigh Hobson,” said Goldstein. “I was happy to see that I beat her, and increased my lead on GC; but I would have loved to win! Felicia rode a great TT.” Two other VAC riders made the top 20: Emily Zell was 11th on the day, with Allpress in 19th.
Tomorrow afternoon is the downtown Silver City Criterium.
who’s having a better time?
while scott is jumping on trampolines and riding minimotos, i am at gila, bleeding out of my eyeballs as the saying goes. today was another death march, with winds of biblical proportions, stomach turning descents (extra fun in said winds), and a successful defense of the leaders jersey! so in the end…it is all worth it.
given that i am a shell of a human right now, check my team’s site for the race recap, and garrett’s site for scott’s escapades.

that was so wrong…
…so hard. soooo inappropriate.
but apparently not hard enough, because we won!!! leah won, more precisely, but it was truly an entire team effort. we all worked to within an inch of our lives and it paid off.
now on to 4 more stages of keeping the jersey down here in Gila, NM - home to altitude, desert heat, insult-your-sanity mountains, and “high wind advisories”. good times!
pics to follow…check www.cyclingnews.com.
